2nd gear will be lower rwhp than 3rd gear. Yes are suppose to pull in the gear that has the 1:1 ratio. You should be able to lock it in 3rd via hptuners or careful usage of the foot to avoid the downshift.

Most recently I spent a couple of hours on the dyno and got 446 rwhp with a 3rd gear pull and 403 rwhp in 2nd gear. All pulls to 6000 rpm, which was ~98 mph.

The little 4.8 should be able to rev pretty far out, like 6,500 at least with the right valve train.

Though I do agree that the cam grind is not ideal, it needs to be smaller to work better.

Stock driveshaft like said does hold you back for doing the dyno runs in 3rd.

Also how much meat you takeoff yourheads in "your home porting?" Did you happen to flowthem? You have any pics of your work?
Also 350whp is a little out there- bluecajan53 look him up, read his build.... if it's still around, I believe he hit 330/330 in a 5.3 2wd and that was good numbers back when-

Ok, that is good info to know about the 3rd gear pulls, that is a little more reassuring. Thank you

What cam spec would you go after FFDP? I walked into this project blindly and simply followed the recommendations of the cam manufacturer in my decision process. He said this cam would add big through out the whole curve with out changing to much stock equipment.

Ok as far as the home port.. i really did not do to much.. i cleaned up all the casting bumps and polished them on the exhaust and intake ports , i took off the rocker bolt buldges, i oppened up the top of the exhast port to nearly gasket match(about 1/8” shy of gasket matching on just the top) i polished the combustion camber with out taking out the casting bumps there and i featherd in the valve seat area. I never flowed them.

I can only assume you must be running 4.10 gears or better because i was just shy of 85 MPH in second with my 3.73s

There are lots of options out there but something in a 218/226, maybe even like a 220/228 or similar would do better than the very large cam you have. The one you picked would be better suited for a 6.0 than it would a 4.8.

I had a similar cam spec'd by a 'pro' and it sucked. It might be great in an Fbody but not in a heavy truck with 33's. Swapped to a Vinci cam and all was better.
