longer crank pulley bolt?
Hey guys, I have been posting on here for about a week trying to find all the info I can on doing a cam swap in an 05 5.3 chevy. Three quick questions. What is the deal with a longer than stock crank pulley bolt? Where do I go find it? What do I ask for when I get there (dimensions)? Thanks a lot. I hope to get this project underway on Saturday and want to have all my ducks in a row.

I am just imagining or have I heard that the balncer bolt is for one time use only? Oh and by the way, I am the one who bought the cam from gmcwaldoch that came out of mjhowards pickup I believe. The cam is 216/221 w/ 558 lift. Is this cam ok with the ls6 springs provided and is it going to be ok with stock tune and converter until I can do better? Thanks a lot guys I wouldnt be able to do many things without the help I get on this and LS1tech forums.

Yes, it is a torque to yield bolt. You torque to 37ft lbs then rotate 140*. It stretches. You can get a new one from the dealer for less than $5. Some people have much success with puting some locktite on it and tqing it to 250lbs or so. The balancer will work its way off if you don't do one of the above methods. I just by a new bolt for as cheap as they are. getting the bolt to stretch can be a pain in the **** and usually takes 2 people.
