As far as I know all of the 6.2's have the 58x reluctor, and your 06 should definitely be a 24

1st off, all the 6.2L’s would have come from the factory with a 58X reluctor wheel. Some of the confusion starts by GM making the switch from 24X to 58X in ’05 in some of their line up, however the trucks still used the 24X crank signal through the ’07 Classic models and made the switch with the GMT-900’s. Most generally accept that the switch over was from the Gen III to the Gen IV engines and for the most part it is true, but not in all cases, as some of the earlier LS2’s still came equipped with the 24X reluctor wheel. In the aftermarket world, the engines can be set up with the proper reluctor wheel for your vehicle; you just need to make sure to let the supplier know which you need.

If I remember correctly the easiest way to tell which wheel you have without taking the oil pan off is to look at the crank sensor. If the crank sensor itself is black then you have a 24x, if it is grey you have a 58x. I think???

wiring for an 80 swap is fairly easy. You have to add a vss sensor which requires 2 new wires to run to the pcm and then there is a short harness you can buy for the round connector that just goes between the original and the trans. If you wanna skip the connector harness there are write ups on how to move the wires in the original to make it work.
