Quick update. Block and rods are done. Disassembled heads, washed them with a Hotsy and sent them in for maybe a few guides and valve job. Ordered Speed Engineering 1 3/4 headers and the ZL1 or CTSV converter- tomato tomAto. Ordered a CTSV flexplate only to find out it's an 8 bolt hole crank vs 6 bolt hole, so that's going back.
Was driving the wife's Escalade for work since she works from home. Transmission decided it's spirit animal was Curt Cobain and gave up R, 5 and 6, and sometimes 4, so just pulled that out tonight. Fluid was just changed 2 weeks ago, came out smelling awfully burnt and glittery like it was used to wash all the glitter off every stripper in a 5 state region.
Been driving a Hyundai Elantra (rental- long story) and am pretty sold on the 36-40mpg but my God it's a gutless wonder. May seriously consider an econobox for the commute.....3/4 tank is 9 gallons LMFAO.
Maybe this weekend or next I'll be driving my truck. Tranny should be done for my wifes by Friday or Monday. Was going to lower hers and get her some shorty headers but between all the other bad luck and "while we're in there" expenses, nobody's getting nothing for a while.
Machine shop has my head's done with all new guides and valve job, and my pistons I bought will work. Factory calls for 3 thousandths clearance which I have with the new Pistons right now. Mahle wants 5 to 6 thousandths clearance which is right where I will be after the hone.
He is also file fitting the rings so when I get it back all we have to do is assemble. Had him balance rotating assembly and he said I can spin it to 7500 rpm! I will just be happy to be driving the truck again by the end of July hopefully. Should be getting block, heads, and rotating assembly back just before Independence day.
Sucks your ring land let go but it could have been a lot worse! And it looks like you had a few other odds and ends that needed attention anyway. Looks like its working out good.

Hope so.
I'm hoping I won't regret not putting the rebuilt 6L80E in my truck instead of my wives. She would have never known 🤣
Finally got the block, heads, crank, rods and pistons back from the machine shop a few weeks back. Was able to coordinate with my BIL on Saturday to get down there and our plan was to get the short if not the long block assembled, and then installed this weekend. We discovered that the machine shop didn't file fit the rings- either forgot or wasn't asked. Sooooo, we got as far as installing the crank, and the top rings filed. Filing them to .024 since I don't plan on running more than 14psi in the name of reliability and not breaking crap. That's all the farther we got Saturday before it got late. I drove my Z28 to repair a torque arm mounting bolt that needed heli coiled to keep the TA from slapping the tunnel or trans mount with every shift or throttle lift, and he was cleaning injectors and putting new plugs in his GSXR when I got there. Hoping to get further this weekend.
Got more work done last weekend. Finished file fitting rings, and got as far as the heads on. Forgot to take pictures post cam install. Trying to coordinate time for both brother in laws and me to be down there to push the truck in when we have several hours to work on it. Hoping next weekend.
I will say I wish I could justify purchasing a Snap On torque wrench like he has- battery powered, and you can set to angle or lbs torque. Lights up different colors and digital readout when you approach, nail, or overshoot your spec. It's almost as cool as ****. Almost.
Analog clicky torque wrenches > digital torque wrenches
Probably so, but the cool factor beats the hell outta my clicky ones 😂
We did use a clicky on everything that wasn't first pass 25 ft/lb and then 87* second pass.
