no, not damaged. i was a jaguar tech, their lifters were freakin noisy, especially with the engine covers off. it depends. what injectors are you running. you couldve just got a noisy batch, or you could have one that is failing.

easiest way to find the noise is to get a doctors stethescope and put it on the injectors, manifold etc. you'll know when you find it, it will be loud.

have you had any body work done recently? or had any parts off? could be a bad connection. you'd be surprised how little it takes to create a bad connection. check all the contacts and connectors/eyelets form the starter altenator battery etc. check ground straps. even if they are dirty they could cause an annoying problem. i've found some trippy stuff on cars.

disconnect and reconnect both battery terminals, make sure they are clean and make solid contact. if the problem is still there after that, consider taking it to the dealership to have it diagnosed with their equipment.

another thing i was thinking about. if its that loud that its bothering you while youre driving, it very well could be a valve getting ready to let go. the old 5.2 dodge heads were notorious for slamming the valves into the seats, not allowing proper sealing of the combustion chamber. it can happen to any head.

if you have the equipment, do a cylinder leakdown test. about 100psi into each plug hole and let it sit. if the valve isnt sealing, youl see the psi drop consitently.

where are you located?
