info needed on if I can rebuild
#1
Hello all. Been awhile since I've posted. I still have my truck and its still down. Wondering if I would be able to rebuild the engine or if I have to swap it out for a 5.3L. Here is the only visible damage that I can see so far.

That’s the #3 cylinder. looks like it came out a bit and kissed the head. doesn’t looked cracked or broken. just the carbon rubbed off. I’m thinking that the rod bolts stretched and the piston came up out of the cylinder. if that’s the case would I be able to just replace the rod bolts and go? Does anyone carry stock rod bolts our do I have to go with the ARP ones. It’s going back to mostly stock and no more racing. Will probably sell it so I can get a bigger vehicle for my growing family. Maybe a 05-06 Yukon Denali. I know I have to open up the block to find out for sure. just asking for guidance. I just ordered an engine stand. rotates 360* so it shouldn’t be too hard to take apart.
Thanks for any help

If the rod bolts stretched, you will need to check the big end of the rod for roundness. Worst case you need to put a rod in it assuming something didn't let go.
Definitely need to tear into it to see what's wrong.

Here the truck sat, in its final resting place. Well, last place I saw it.

If you're going to sell it, I would just get a junkyard motor. Last thing you want to do is take a chance rebuilding the 6.0 and find it has an issue in the engine after you put it back together. Then you just have to do everything over again.

True. But junkyard ls motors are hard to come by here. Or I just don't have luck finding them. And Jake, after my taillights got stolen I keep it moving around. Its in a friend's garage right now. I just moved into a new house on the base and will be moving it there once I get the garage cleared of all the moving boxes

I agree on the junkyard motor. If one rod **** the bed, chances are others are either damaged or not too far behind. Besides, you will have just as much tied up in parts/machine work as you would a new motor. Besides, if the valve came in contact with the piston, it might be bent. Mine was, but you couldnt tell with a valvespring on it. Only with no spring pressure you cold tell it wouldnt sit flat in the valve seat.
