The stock lower end is just fine, just change the rod bolts. All of that with the right cam and a better intake manifold is about the best you can ask for without spending more than it's worth to get your goal.
Can you explain the reasoning behind taking off the L33 heads?

Sure you could gain some by getting a CNC port, but they already have big valves and flow better than LM7 heads. Combustion chambers are the same size.

What kind of kit are you looking for?
I'm thinking on a trick kit to begin with since i already have the FLT and the 3200RPM vig but as soon as the turbo goes on, the motor fund will begin for rex to build me an iron block 5.7L with all the goodies

Rick makes a good kit. Why a 5.7 instead of a 6.0?

That's funny... I know two guys who make turbo kits for these trucks and both are named Rick lol...

i just like the 5.7 for some reason and the rotating assemblies are freakin plentiful and relatively inexpensive

If I recall the L33 heads are around 65cc chambers and the LM7 chambers are around 62cc. If you port those and install the larger intake valve they will be a better choice than the L33 head without having to mill them. The WCCH Edelbrock heads would be a good choice also.

I thought I heard that the chambers were the same, but the flat top pistons brought the CR up to 9.9:1
I'm not positive though.
L33s are so mysterious
I guess I am just trying to see if the $ for heads could be better used for something else.

Good choice on the FI decision Zzebes. I think holding the record would be fun but not as rewarding as a turbo. Rex and richard will do you right. If your looking for a LM7 I have one you can have for cheap. It's sitting 20 yards from Richard and Rex's hands and they could easily make you that 5.7 in no time and you'd have less down time to deal with and less shipping costs too!
PM me if you want any pics.
Also Brain@JPA/Blownchevy (yes he changed his name again) is selling his STS kit that he had on his own rex-built 5.7L. You can probably have his turbo set-up for cheaper than a new set-up.
Just food for that gerbil in your head!

Thanks man i'll send you a PM and i think i am gonna go with a front mount only because of how shitty the roads are in houston and how often we get torrential rains and flooding. i think i am gonna start by ordering tricks turbo kit or i had another gerbil moment and considered the hot parts from an LS1 T/A kit that puts the turbo in front of the motor.
