Default Hurt another 6.0??? what could it be now.

Well i haven't had the SS out in a long time. But today i took it to work for the first time all year. i went to get on it a bit and noticed it was popping a bit when i would go into boost. well after digging around it turnout's out i had 2 burn't up plug wire's. plug wires that were burn't up were 4 & 6. so i replaced those wires and took it for a test drive. well it seemed to be doing fine then all of a sudden. i look out the window in my passenger to look at the exhaust and there was a big cloud of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. it smokes a little bit at idle. but if you ease into it. it really starts to smoke. if you left off the throttle it lets out a big puff of smoke.

So i went home to pull plugs and checkout whats going on. i started with number #1 cylinder. when i pulled the plug it was covered in black oil and wet. so i pulled #3 cylinder plug. it looks perfect. it was a light brown looked just like it should so i went ahead and did a compression test. On #1 cylinder im getting 160 lbs in that cylinder. which isn't great but i doesn't seem bad either because #3 cylinder in at 180lbs. to me it seems like there should be a lot less compression in #1 sense there is some much oil on that plug.

So what do you guy's think could be going on?

heres a few pictures of the plugs. number 1 plug is on the right number 3 plug is on the left...

If there's oil in the cylinder that will make the compression test read high. So #1 might have even less than 160. If that plug is covered in oil, it didn't just magically appear there. That sucks man. Good luck

yeah im sure thats what is happening because when i removed the compression tester from that cylinder i had to wipe off oil from the head of the tester. im gonna dig into it a bit more today.

i already have another block that is bored and ready to go only missing bearings i have everything else. it a spare.

only thing that is bugging me is that every time something has happen in the past it on cylinder #1. im woundering if i have a dead injector or something

What were your injector duty cycles at 9psi with those injectors?

Im not sure. I have never checked. i have my truck tuned from a mail ordered tune. i have a buddy with Hptuners but he's not around right now to check.

this is whats crazy. that these are the injectors i ran my best times on. 2 years ago i ran a 12.53 at 108 mph. on a stock LQ4 and 13 lbs of boost and a 65 shot i know but the airfuel was perfect and it ran great for years. then i toasted my 4l60 and swapped to a 4l80e so i had to get a retune for the trans to work right and ever sense i have had motor problems. i really wish i would have never had the trans changed because i wouldn't of got a retune and things would be fine. i ran a mix fuel when i ran nitrous half 105 and half pump. but the truck did great and loved it. never skipped a beat and it pulled great. the wideband was happy and so where the EGT's so i don't know.

im gonna run different injectors this go around. for a 370 what would be good injector. 60 or 85? i know with 85 i would have room to grow but will 85s run on a 370 on low boost like 10lbs???

Some mail order tuners are good, but its not easy to tune forced induction accurately and safely that way.

Oh i understand that. im not putting it on my tuner at all. i understand stuff happens. its just part of the game with trying to make power. im not sour at all. its just a motor. im just wondering what it could be. my tuner is a sponsor here. he has tuned many FI setups. im wondering if it wasn't a failed part. im really leaning towards bad injectors. because the last motor went on the same cylinder. i have had this truck boosted for 6 years now so it has had a few motors now. luckly i have many DDS

#1 - wrong plugs
You should be running non-projected tip plugs.

#2 - Mail order tune
I despise mail order tunes.
