Default How to turn a 6.0 into a 383 stroker?

My buddy is searching for 6.0 block currently

What is a good price range? probably going to get a LQ4 since we just want the block and are getting new pistons and rotating assembly

What length rods?

What crank?

This is going in a v6 firebird so what to do about the ECU?

A 6.0 has too big a bore for a 383 stroker. You can make a nice 390 with the right crank and pistons and it's probably a better engine. Or do what most guys do and make a 408 with a 4" crank. I'm not sure about tuning a V6 car to a V8 setup. Sensors and plug wires might need some changing.

So I did a bunch of research and 383's are made from ls1 motors. That is why I couldn't find anything about a 6.0 conversion lol

He has a 383 68 camaro and a 383 69 nova. Than man loves 383 motor haha

I told him to sell the dd v6 and buy an ls1 ws6 then It would be easier the stroke it due to all the ECU and fuel lines will match up.

Would he need larger injectors for a 6.3L?

You could do it but it probably wouldn't be off the shelf stuff. 4.005 bore x 3.800 stroke would be close. Or if the block would do it, you could go 4.100 bore with stock 3.622 stroke

Heres an amateur question for yall

ls1 with 4" crank.....will the stock rods work? or are longer rods needed in order to achieve the 383ci

I bored my 5.3 block .125". You should check cylinder walls before boring as they are not all the same. Machining costs can be expensive.

An LS1/LS6 or a 4.8/5.3 block can be used. To make a 383, you need a 4" crank. You can use the factory rods. Bigger fuel injectors are a good idea.

I really like the 383. Mine makes 500ft/lbs of torque at 3500rpm with the blower. There are now 15000 miles on it without a hiccup. I daily drive it and it's not that hard on fuel.

I would build one again if I could get cheap machining but would probably lean towards a 390 next time.
