Default How much will tuning help my cam.

My 224/224 cam is installed. Right now it doesn't iddle at all. My nelson tune will arrive on tuesday but I just couldn't resist taking it for a drive. Right now my truck is slower than with the stock cam, and it only flashes to 1500 where it used to flash to 3000 rpm. Will the tune make it better or will it only help the iddle? Also, what all is changed when a new cam is installed? For example, timing, a/f? I am planning on doing a dyno as soon as the new computer is in and sending data back to nelson so that he can squeeze out any horsepower left.
