Default How long do rings take to seat?

Doing some break in tuning and running. Gave it almost full throttle today and it blew the dipstick out and was smoking pretty good. Soon as we let off it stopped. Took off the oil fill cap and it's not puffing anything out at all. Hasn't smoked any other time just when it was at about 7psi. It's wiseco pistons and their rings, 1.2mm top and second ring.

Too many variables to really say. Depends on engine temp, piston temp, initial ring tension, machine work, etc...

So is it ok that it blew the dip stick out? About 75 miles on it so far, already changed the oil. Like I said at idle and normal driving it doesn't smoke a lick. But I just got it to be able to take a load. Found three plug wires with bad insulation on them. I forgot I was running the 6l wires it came with from the yard, thought I was using the new ones from the 5.3. They are too short due to different coils.

It'll put some pressure in the crankcase for a while when the rings are seating. Should go away as they seat.

I was kinda thinking this too. This is my first build that is turbo'd and fresh motor. All others were N/A, they smoked under load but didn't pop the dip stick. What was weird is, it was pulling pretty good but smoking then shifted gears and started to pull really really hard. This was all just over half throttle.

I've tried to use the logger to lock it in second and lock the Tcc to load the engine by slowing the truck with it. But I can't get dfco to kick in. So I used the vcm controls to turn off the fuel pump, same same lol. Idle throttle percent is way over dfco kick in percent. I'll have to work on that part too.

Off topic-W my mustang I drove to the track once it fired and passed the " nothing leaking when I look under it " test.

I was ripping 7.2s NA but looking back I shoulda Drove it around a few days before the 7 mile trip to the local track.

I think I'm gonna take it out for a few more blast locked in second gear with the Tcc on to load it up really good. The turn off the fuel pump on a few decels. Maybe that will clear it up. Checked it on fire up earlier and no puffs of anything came out.

Just run it up to 5k in second and let the engine slow you down. Do that a few times and itll be good. By 75 miles it ought to be pretty well sealed though.
