Default How do I get the sludge out of head bolt holes?

Im changing my head gaskets, and instaling head studs. Im having a horrable problem with this nasty sludge down in the head bolt holes. I can't get it out. The studs hydrolic, and ooze that **** out between the head and gasket, when I try to install the studs. I tried to suck it out with the vaccume, and blow it out with the air, but it is too thick. I need to find some way to suck that **** out. I will appreciate any ideas. Thanks, J

I'd put some trans fluid in there and scrape around with a screwdriver to break it up... then try vacuuming it again.

I have used industrial "Q-Tips" to reach into bolt holes. Sometimes a regular Q-Tip with a straight Kelly Clamp. Also a smaller diameter screwdriver with a patch of cloth. A guncleaning kit might work too; a brass wire brush on the end of a rod.

you need a very small round metal brush.
the kind that look like a large pipe cleaner.
hook it up to your drill, squart in some cleaning fluid,
stick it and and spin it while moving up and down.
blow it all out with compressed air.

file your old bolts flat on two sides and use that as a cheap tap tp loosen it up and keep sucking it out.

beat me to it....i put some pb blaster in the bolt holes to loosen up the junk too. just thread that bolt in and out until it threads in with your fingers and the bolt comes out clean.

Thank's guy's I sprayed some carb cleaner down there to thin it out, and twisted up some paper. It's seems to be absorbing.
