IMO save your money on different heads at this time. If your seeking performance from your engine save up for a 5.3l or preferably a 6.0l long block. The power difference to a stock 6.0l is big and for the relatively low cost of a long block, it's the best bang for buck you can do at this point.

Good luck,

Richard

I agree with Richard 100%. The 4.8 isn't lacking head flow. Hell, the 293 ci 4.8 heads flow a LOT better than the heads they used to put on 400 ci sbc's. I'd recommend a small cam if you MUST do something now and can't wait for more cubes.

it feels like it has no torque thru the 1st few thousand rpm.. mostly after it warms up and if the a/c is on its horrible. all sputtery like im on half a motor.
ionno if its cuz i have a spark plug only partially in or if i did get it in all the way. not sure. been doing it for a couple years now and nothing has broke so im still lost. im about to get the o2 sims and see if the problem goes away cuz i have high flow cats.
imma try 3 things. heads. o2 sims. and if all fails, fuel sending unit. i have a new fuel pump, filter, plugs and wires, rebuilt tans with t/b converter

I'd cam it before you even thought about heads... there are tons of cams out there that would do well in that truck.

Has anything been done with the trucks tune? Maybe with your mods the tune is out of whack. Usually the pedal response is pretty crisp when taking off from a stop.

well i've taken everything off and turned it back to stock.. still runs like crap so its not the tune.. maybe the computer itself.. so im still stuck on 02 sims, computer, heads, or fuel sending unit

The fact that it's sputtering needs to be addressed before you put a new cam or new heads on it? If you think it's the plug, then you need to determine that for sure. You can fix a striped spark plug hole too for cheap. They even make a tool that can do it while the heads are still installed on the engine. It doesn't put any shaving into the cylinder either. The way the tap/thread chaser works, is that it cuts when you back it out. I'll see if I can find a link.
