Default head bolt lengths for the different years ?

Hello all, I am going to be pulling my heads for a lifter change as mine have developed the tick tick... My current 5.3 setup is the earlier (2002) that uses the short and long head bolts.
I am also boosted with low boost turbo setup.
Am I correct to assume the different head bolt arrangement is directly related to the heads not the block? I ask because I was leaning toward ARP bolts so this would allow their reuse in the future plus I know they are stronger. Now part of this was in case I decided to upgrade heads say to the newer 799 heads. Will these new heads use the bolts with the same length that the 2004 and up engines use?
Thanks
Dave

From my experience the block in use is what determines the bolts to be used. The heads do not change the length.

Heads are the same, block is different.
