GT2-3 cam question
#1
I know a lot of guys on here are useing the GT2-3 cam. I was wondering where to have my shift pionts set and where to set the rev limiter. What do those of you that run that cam have things set? I currently use westers tunning and need to give him that info for him to rewrite ny tune. I plan to take it to Dez racing to have dyno tuned by the end of the summer.

Most will setup shift point by where hp starts to fall on dyno graphs or trial and error on the track or both.
What springs?
Hardened pushrods?
I spin mine up to ~6300 and rev limit is ~6700 iirc.

Thanks trever1t for the response. I bought a cam and spring kit through Lingenfelter. It comes with LS6 springs. They told me that I didn't need hardened push rods. I need a shift piont to begin with untill I get it on the dyno inorder to have the Westers mail order tune rewriten for my truck. Can't wait to get it over to Dez racing to be dyno tuned the right way!

cyaz06,
I would set the shift point at 5,800 if it is a 5.3 L and at 5,500 if it is a 6.0 L for starters. You want to stay in a given gear at WOT up to the point where the HP peaks and then enter the next higher gear. These estimates are just my opinion based on where I think this cam will peak with a RADIX.
Note: I'd buy some better pushrods like the 7.400" Comp pushrods that Lingenfelter has illustrated on the webpage for the GT2-3 http://www.lingenfelter.com/store/ls1-gt2-3kit.html. The pushrods are the weakest link in the valve train chain on these engines. When push comes to shove, the pushrod bends.

FYI, i used that cam and LS6 springs on my motor when i had my STS. I got valve float at about 5400rpm on 5psi. The springs are okay for a NA motor but with boost you will probably need something more like 918's.
