Ok, crankshaft casting number is 12552216, so looks like I'm good 👍. I think that needle bearing won't interfere with anything, so I'll leave it alone.

Your good on the pilot bearing in the crank. But wouldnt hurt to get it out either..

I use this ring filer and it doesnt take long at all to file fit a few engines worth of rings a day.

I've checked the main bearings compared to the crank journals with a micrometer and zeroing out the dial bore gauge on the locked anvil. A bit over 2 thousands clearance seems right. But my thrust bearing has extra clearance. 🧐

I'd heard this bearing has extra clearance because it needs to lubricate the thrust surface? Does this seem correct? All the bearings came from the same package.

Your thrust bearing reading shows it has a .004" clearance? I've never seen anything like that. They are always the same on all of the ones I've measured/checked.

Thank you. Yes, that's what I'm pretty sure I measured. 0.004".

I'll double check again today that bearing is installed correctly and I'm taking an accurate reading.

BTW, did you mean to post a link on previous post for a ring file tool? 🤔 That's probably what I'll buy.

I'm back to working on this project and got the block back on the stand. I ordered the Pro-form manual ring filer.

I re inspected the camshaft and I'm pretty sure I don't want to use it. There's a bit of pitting, probably from sitting around. I see the cam profile for the later LQ4 and L96 are very similar, within a degree on the exhaust duration.

I'll look for a GM genuine replacement, unless there's a reason why I would need to go with something else? 🤔 I want to stay with 3 bolt cam, right?

I don't know anything about camshafts profiles. And I didn't want to open Pandora's Box. 🙈
