Engine modifications
#1
Hey guys I just graduated high school and as a gift I got a cam for my 5.3 Silverado it’s a chopacabra from tsp my original plans were to get a stage 4 cam from btr, my question is what are some good heads that will go good with this cam(chopacabra), I want a n/a build I’m not planning on stroking the engine. I really got no budget, this truck will be more of a performance truck. Thanks for the help and advice I get

Honestly the stock heads are best
if you wanted to spend some money and get things a little spicier, you could deck some 243/799s to keep compression up or get some ported and "large valve" 806s
I know TSP used to sell ported 806s, not sure if they still offer them or that service
The problem with the gen3 5.3 is that nearly every head option out there drops compression and therefore loses power. If you're not looking to put boost on top of this engine, or change pistons- you need all the compression you can get

You need to do some reading on that cam. I don’t think it’s really a “performance” cam. There is a thread on here with someone taking theirs to the track with it and they really aren’t impressed with it. I believe it is more of a look at me cam.

I call these style cams the "race car cams" sounds like race car but slower than stock.
For a "performance" build a quality torque converter would net you more gains in the 1/4 mile than a mediocre noisy cam
