Default which engine

i have a 96 gmc 1/2 ton that has 290,000 on the original vortec 350. it still runs like a raped ape but i'm wanting more i guess so i've been thinking about building a new engine for it. so far my choices are vortec 350 stroked to 383, a 5.3 stroked to 383 or 393, or a 6.0. my basic idea is 500+ rwhp with gobs of torque down low with reasonable gas mileage. i'd like to see more then the 11.74 mpg my 03 3/4 ton 6.0 produced. i also already have a 4l80e sitting on the garage floor waiting to be rebuilt and 14bolts are a dime a dozen here so i'll most likely toss 1 of those in as well

so what would ya'll build

Gotta be either Forced induction or nitrous if you are going to keep good gas mileage with that kind of power. An ls1 383 cost as much as a 408 doesn't it? An ls1 turbo would do nicely. An old school 383 would perform well and be cheap to build but getting that much power na would be almost impossible for a driver.

Well in that case the Maggie I hear is turn key, torque down low, and VERY reliable. Think the mileage can be good too but likely not AS good as the turbo.

Magnacharger. The TVS line is the newer version. Do a search for Trever1t, you'll understand.
