ok its dumb but i'm gonna ask it anyway. if the only mod you have is an intake and you throw a cam in there will you loose any power from what you had. i know you will NOT get the full advantage of the cam with out exhaust and tc. but that stuff will come in near future but i'm not sure how long i can hold off on the cam install. so will i loose power over stock or will it be about the same until the exhaust comes. i will be doing another tt3000 and full exhaust including pacesetter headers. later i thought about doing the edelbrock intake also. but the cam is on its way now. i found a great deal on the mti c2 cam 224/581lsa112. so i couldn't pass it up.

with that cam you will loose alot of bottom end untill you get the stall

do you actually loose bttom end or does it feel like it due to the way it pulls up top?

You wont lose power. I have a 212/218 with no stall and stock exhaust and stock intake and I could feel the difference. I actually don't think I lost any bottom end with my cam. It still feels really great even from a dead stop. I does however pull a lot harder up top.

thats kinda my thought on it. it just feels like you lost it because of the way the top pulls. i think i'll just throw it in and then when i get the stall and full exhaust on i'll just be that much happier lol.

You DO lose bottom end power, when I had the 222/224 112 comp grind in my 5.3 with a converter only stalling to 2600 I was cutting 2.4 60s, with the 3k stall and stock cam I was cutting 2.1s

did you have headers and all on your? was there any thing diff about the two setups besides cam and stall.

I think you will lose some noticeable low end tq. The cam mentioned above (212/218) actually makes more low end tq than a stock cam but once you get past about 220/220 you start giving up bottom end for top end. In a 5600lb dump truck like you (and I) drive, the loss of tq will feel bigger. The higher stall TC is just going to let you bypass the low tq bottom end and get right into your power band. It all depends on what you want and where you want to shift at. I think a 224/224 makes power to 6800+rpm. Are you planning to turn that fast?

there are a few people runing this thing and not having to turn it that fast. and i'll probably install it about 2* advance to help out alitlte. it can't be as bad as that damn lpe cam in my silverado. it was like a dead dog until like 3000 rpm or higher and then it just pulled and pulled. infact i got better gas mileage at 90 mph than at 75mph because it pulled the tuck easier at that speed below that you could feel the strain. i may go with 4.10's in the hoe to help out. this may be one of the reasons lpe stoped making this cam. i called them once and they had even forgot they made that cam. lol it was the gt1.

Found this clip of the cam you are asking about in a 6L. In a 5.3 it will be worse or better depending on what you're shooting for.

I'm not saying its a bad cam for you. I just think you need to get the converter and install them at the same time.
4.10's will help. Thats what I did as well. Still runs pretty high rpm at 70+mph though, even with my tires. Around town they are more fun.
