Default Do noisy valve springs cause false KR?

I am getting lots of KR at part throttle (up to 8*) after installing the Patriot Gold springs. They told me they would be noisy, so I think they may be causing it. Anyone else experience this? I also have the crappy 2000 computer, so that doesn't help. It doesn't seem to happen much in heavy throttle, just mild accellerating. I'm just wondering if this is common or if something else may be wrong.

very common... you can turn down the sensitivity of your knock sensors with hptuners though.

thats what i had to do ... when your PCM senses knock, it most likely will pull timing.

Mine did it bad. I had already gotten a nelson tune before I got hptuners, so I upgraded to the 2002 pcm through him. My 99 pcm didn't have the sensitivity adjustment like the newer one does. I forget how much it was to upgrade.

So you guys are saying this is common with the better springs?
Do the LS6 springs do the same thing? Since I have an 02 PCM I should be ok when I get to that point?

By turing down the sensitivity of the sensors are you not running the risk of your engine pinging say under boost or heavy load and having a meltdown of some type?

This is great to know ahead of time. Looking forward to hearing your tuning results and if you are still getting KR.

are you sure its the springs and not having incorrect pushrod lenght?

You can pick up ghost knock counts from a lot of things. Springs can deffinitely do it along with lifter ticks. I've even heard of the gear backlash from a harsh 1-2 shift causing enough noise through the drivetrain to trigger ghost knocks.

I have the pushrods that came with the kit from Thunder, so they should be the correct length. I had the knock sensors turned down before, but when I put the new piston, head, and double springs in, I set them back to stock just in case I had done anything wrong, so it hopefully wouldn't blow up. However, I am seeing more kr than I expected, so I wanted to make sure it was normal. Now I can start turning them down a little bit each time until I reach the right spot. Thanks guys, and yea I need to swap to a 2002 computer eventually.

I would think that it would be low octane fuel. But seeing ur on a 6.0 with a Radix I dont see how that would be unless u were using meth u may get a little knock maybe? maybe Im wrong. But I definitely know u get KR from too much timing, I had it bad on my 1st and only logged run

one way to figure out if its false knock. is remove a few degrees of timing. if it pops up as the same amount. remove a few more degrees. if it still does it and lets say you took a total of 10* out, then you know its false. i chased a false knock all the way from 28* down to 12* timing at WOT and it wasnt knock it was my headers hitting my frame on passengerside

Its common for knock to occur when the converter is locked and the engine is under load. Put some race gas in on an empty tank if its still there you know it isnt real and its from a noise source then track the noise down; if your running an aftermarket cam chances are its lifter preload associated.
