Default Considering 5.3

hey everyone

Im considering putting a 5.3 in 78T/a as they are alot cheaper then the car based LSx, and want to get into the LSx world. I was just wondering what kind of power is possible from a cam, intake in one of these engines. Is 400 crank possible without headwork or is there alot more needed...Just curious, trying to figure what im going to spend for my performance goals with the build...

Thanks
Mike

400 Flywheel HP is easy to achieve with a 5.3L. Get a good cam, LT headers, Good custom tune and you should already be at it if not a hair away. You could get a TBSS or NNBS intake later on and possibly some head work too.

Btw if you get an 2007 and up 5.3L it will already have the better heads and NNBS intake which is pretty much the exact same thing as the TBSS intake. The 2007 and up 5.3L's have more power than the 99-2006 LM7 5.3 engines.

Hey thanks for reply

Yah I like the 5.3, my dads 07 has the 5.3 and compared to my 4.8 its quite noticeable. Ive toyed with the idea of doing a 4.8 turbo build which would be cool, but im going to have to run around n/a for a while so id like somethign with decent power n/a. If the money allows, id go through the motor and get some mild head work done, but if anything i'd most likely go with a cam and possibly a car intake ls6 most likely

Thanks
Mike

5.3 with a TSP220 or TR220r, set of 243 heads, milled .015, pistons from a 4.8 and a 91oct tune should put you at close if not a bit over 400 at the crank, and give you pleanty of low end umph.

What are the 243 heads off of....milling will increase compression right...I may prefer to leave the heads un milled as I am undecided weither or not im going to go with boost down the road

I may end up running a car intake, Id like to pick up an ls6 intake, but id settle for ls1 also. This will be going into my 78 Trans Am so im going to have to watch the height

Yeah you might get into clearance issues with the taller TBSS intake going in a car. With the right hood it would work though.

I would get a 07 and up 5.3 that already has the flat top pistons and 243 heads.

Yah and I wouldnt mind the low end torque the truck intakes produce, being my car is relatively heavy...3800ish...the only thing I dont like about the truck intakes is...ugly...I see why GM always covered them lol
