Cam Swap Question
#1
So I've started my cam swap, VVT, DOD Delete. Got the cam out today and noticed this:

Do you think this is normal cam bearing wear?
My thoughts are to pull the engine the rest of the way and send it in for new bearings. Maybe crank too?? I'll check them when its all the way out.
Probably order a new oil pump as well.. What pump should I get now that the DOD is gone? Stock GM non DOD???

From what I can tell, a stock (or hell, your stock) pump will work. If you're going to change it out, I would a high pressure pump (not high volume).
If you are removing VVT as well (if it's equipped), you'll need the ls2/ls3 front timing cover kit.
Most people change out the timing change to a C5-R chain.
As for the bearings/wear on the cam, I'd pull the motor and have it refreshed so you'll be set for a long time.
And of course, there is the tune that has to be updated as well to turn off DOD/VVT.

Thanks for the info MadMann...I already have everything I needed for the cam swap. I just got the CHEVROLET PERFORMANCE HEAVY DUTY TIMING CHAIN 12646386. I am not sure I need the C5R chain....
I'll probably just get a GM oil pump as well.
I don't want to chance it, so the block is coming out and the bearings are getting replaced.

Take some advice,
The DOD problem is rampant with these trucks. I have a friend who does 2-3 a week.
The rings are also subject to go (or be bad). They'll seize onto the piston.
My advice would be to pull it, have the entire block gone through and have it re-ringed.
Just my advice.

I'm with ya MadMann!!!! Re-Ringing it already crossed my mind. I'll know more once I get it out of the truck today.
Trying to find what Oil Pump I want to use......And looking for the plug to take the relief out in the oil pan....
