oh, and with 141k on my truck i guess i should do a timing chain too. where should i buy that, autozone? how much do they cost for these trucks? saw an ls2 timing chain in the classifieds, would it work?

Good luck, and I'd do an LS2 timing set while you're at it, but you might have a hard time finding one.
The chrystler harmonic balancer tool works great on the balancer of our trucks. Not sure on pushrod length for that cam, the ls6 springs will work fine. What method do you plan on using for holding up the lifters? And what tool are you going to use to swap the valve springs?

ls2 timing chains arent hard to find? their on tsp website for $40.. i agree with randomhero i wouldn't get the hot cam, the big space in duration isn't good for trucks. why not the proven 212/218?

i was going to pull the lifters unless there is a better way to do it on these trucks. and i am going to use compressed air in the cylinder to hold the valve springs up, that is usually the easiest way to do it.
i didnt do a lot of research on the hot cam, i like the way it sounds and by looking at the specs thought it would do ok. i was thinking i wanted something a little bigger than 212/218. what can i expect to gain with a 212/218 over a stock cam? i read something around 50hp/29tq with the hot cam.

so what are you looking for out of the cam swap? Towing power, Drag strip performance, etc...
Here you go, the write up is for a F-body, but the motor stuff is the same...

thanks for the link. im looking for all-around power. i use the truck for towing pretty heavy loads (5000lbs-8000lbs) but i also want performance without a load. so i guess im looking for sort of an rv cam. but with a cam and a few more things im hoping i can run some low 9s, maybe break into the high 8s. (im running 9.5s now) and i'd also like it to have a little lope at idle
, but thats not that important.
what cam do ya'll prefer for what im looking for, my current mods are in sig
