Just had one of those Active Fuel Management lifters fail on my truck with 6500 miles on it. They had to remove the head and all that to fix it. The tech said that with higher lift cams, you might have an increased failure rate with those lifters. Said that you can't replace them with standard lifters. Not sure if that is true or not. Someone will make a regular lifter to fit them someday.

I'm assuming none of this would be necessary on the 07 NNBS 4.8 liter. The 4.8 (LY2) doesn't have VVT or AFM or FlexFuel for that matter. I'm considering a small cam swap for my 4.8 but don't want to run into any surprises.

Anyone happen to know the stock cam specs on the NNBS 07's?

No. I based my statement upon a very good thread on ls1tech.com where someone posted a GM document specifying details for the DOD cams and additional parts. I didn't just "make it up".

geez.

ok, but several cars in the valley have cams in 2007 5.3L motors...so you might want to retract your statement?

If I can turn off the DOD in tuning and run a standard ported 5.3 head with the new sprocket cam we should be ok right?

Maybe it'll force us to use a smaller lift/softer lobe cam but that shouldnt be a huge deal.

BTW - I have an 07 5.3 TB

Thanks,
Chris
