Default cam suggestions for manual Seirra

How's it going. Newb to the forum. I got a 04 Seirra rcsb 2wd 4.8/ nv3500 5speed, 373's, MSD streetfire coils wires and harness, magnaflow muffler, CAI. Plans for the truck are to road race it. Tax time is here and I'm looking to Do a cam swap, Long tubes ORY and a tune. Also scooped up a 05 electric fan setup with rad fans harness for $75🙂 I know I have to get it tuned to run the fans and make it run right with the cam ect. While I'm there I should probably upgrade the clutch as well. As far as a cam goes I'm looking to make power up to 6k if possible and I'm looking for a aggressive idle. Looking for low to mid range power, Been looking into the Texas speed kits and not sure what would work best with the manual trans, Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks!

if you're wanting to get aggressive with the clutch, Centerforce & Spec are about your only options unless you're alright with a LuK (stock level). be patient with high-rpm shifting. from a launch, you'll almost always have to double-clutch the 2-3 shift to get it in gear.

cam totally depends on you. with that small of a truck & not towing, you could get away with a Comp 228, but it'll lack a lot of low. something like a 220 might work better all around.

i'm doing a 216/220 in my 4x4 that occasionally tows... but i've also got 4.30 gears

Thanks for the info _zebra. Only towing I do is transport my Harley's. My problem is that I'm hard on the truck and I drift the **** out of it. Can't decide if I want the tsp 220r or BTR stage 3/ or 4. Eventually the truck is getting boosted. Also what posi unit would you guys recommend because mine is going.

drifting would drive a welded differential for optimal results. or you could do a locker like an Eaton. i did a TrueTrac, but i also don't kick it sideways much & heard that's hard on them.
cam also depends on what kind of boost you're looking to do. you can sorta get away with a N/A cam with a roots, screw, or centri blower, but you'll need something completely different for a turbo build, so my advice would be to figure out what direction you want your end-state to go & use that for intermediate goals. it'll take a lot less $$ & time in the long run than doing something cool now & changing it all with the next cool step.

I ran a 222/226 EPS for years and it made my truck pretty fun. The NV3500 held up, never broke it, but I've driven beat up dump trucks that shift nicer.
