Default Cam for (small) lifted 5.3

EDIT: Realized this was posted in general and probably should belong in the GM section.

Before I get hounded I have been searching for several months and have not found any solid answers or anyone with my setup. I hate to do it but I started a cam thread.

Cam will be for my 2005 RCSB 4x4 5.3 with a 2500 stall, long tubes, stock 862 heads, TBSS intake, 33 inch tires, and 4.30 gears.

I have been looking at the TSP 220/220 with 112 lsa and Comp 212/218, would like some input as this will be my first cammed setup. I know the procedure to install the cam such as push rods, springs, retainers, etc... No need to get into any of that just need some help on the cam choice.

I know most people suggest a converter upwards of 3k for the 220/220 but was not sure if my gears would make up for what my converter lacks. The truck will be highway driven 95% of the time. My offroading consists mainly of sand dunes and field play where my RPM's will generally be up but occasionally take a few trail rides as well. I would like a nice chop/lope to the idle but sound is not the reason to buy a cam. Any other cam suggestions are greatly welcomed.

I ran a TSP220 112 in my old 5.3 setup. I am over geared aswell and even with a 3200 stall I always thought it would have worked better with a 3600.
it really was a fun setup and ran pretty well.

The 220 will be more than you want with a lifted truck and that tight converter off the line.

I would likely do something along the lines of the truck flow 216/220 on the larger side. The 212/218 low lift would work great too. It's a 114 LSA and has 2* of advance.

If you want more aggressive lobes a custom grind would be in order. It's not often you find aggressive lobes on such small duration cams.

Thanks for the input I have been shying away from the 220/220 for the reasons mentioned and will be looking into the suggested cams. I don't want to spend money and net zero beneficial gains. I've heard great things about the Comp 212/218 as far as retaining good low end and have yet to look into Trick Flow 216/220.

You may also want to talk to some of the sponsors about getting a custom ground can shaft. That way you can have one made specific to your setup instead of having to guess which one may work for it. I've personally been talking to Martin at Tick Performance but there at several good people/shops that can help you out.

I've got a 212/218 low lift with a 2800 stall. I'm not lifted but have 285's with 3.73 gears. The cam pulls great even with stock manifolds but after about 15k miles, I think I would've been better off with a 3000 stall or so. When I shift into 4th getting on the freeway it goes into a "dead" spot if you will around 1500 rpm.

I love my vinci 210/218 .551/.551 on 116lsa. Richard at vinci quit stocking cams so now every came is built per order. You can give him a call or email and he can tweak the cam to better suit your set up.

It's always better to go a little on the small side with these tiny 5.3L motors and heavy trucks.

It looks as if I have several options to look into, the input is appreciated. I have been considering a custom grind as well, the price difference appears to be negligible if any. I'd love to run a bigger converter so I could run a slightly larger cam but still use the truck to tow with every so often.
