Default Cam size ?

I come across a deal on a new cam patriot springs and timing set for $450 all new. Well the cam is from futural motorsports. its a 230"/232" .595"/.585" 112LSA with all other supporting mods do you think it would run good in a 5.3l

no that's way too big of a cam unless you run like a 4000 converter, which isn't streetable IMO.

Anything bigger than a 228/228 isn't going to be any fun in a 5.3L unless you spend big money on heads and a ls6 intake conversion.

not when it comes to cams, that cam in a 5.3 probably wouldnt "come on" (you feel the power gain) till about 4000 or so, but it would rev to well over 7krpm. not a very streetable cam.

the larger the duration the higher the powerband will be - to an extent

i agree, it COULD be used in a 6.0 and would be better suited in a 383 or 402/408 and its WAAAAAY to big for a 5.3
