cam install

my truck was cammed when i bought it .now my buddy wants me to do his . i am told you can remove the rockers and push rods and rotate cam after timing cover is remove and lifters will set in plastics holders until swap cam .is there any thing else?

yeah man, after you rotate the cam to push up the lifters, you need to slide som e long dowels into the holes in the block that are on each side of the cam, this will make sure the lifters stay up without dropping back down on you. Just look up ls cam swap pics on google, it will show what im talking about.

You will also have to pull the radiator but I think the condenser can be left connected so you shouldnt have to mess with the AC at all. Like said above you can use some dowels to hold the lifters up or Comp Cams sells a tool that you can use as well. Also, I have seen some people use cheap magnets that parts stores have on their counter at the register to hold them up in place.

dowels worked perfect for me every time as well! as for higher mileage, idk about that, I did cam swaps on my first "ls" motor when it had well over 100k on it with no dowels and no magnets and never had an issue. it's all about luck if you use that method!
