What all needs to be done to run a GenIII cam in a LS2? I know the LS2 is a single bolt cam but is there anything else? Is it as simple as a cam and timing gear swap?

 

Basically yes, you've got it. The Gen IV in III is where the issues start arising, but even then it's possible.

 

Should change the chain tensioner to the black wedge style too; I've read it's better for harmonics if you're running a 3 bolt cam/gear.

 

the ls2 is a 3 bolt cam too. the changes are in the ls2 cams sensor is in the front cover. would have to put in an old style that reads off the back of the cam for gen 3. not sure if the ls2 block has a provision for that. might not have to change anything but the cam and springs. sensor would still read off the cam gear. gen 4 didnt go to single bolt cams til bout 07 or 08. not sure exactly when.
