Default Cam for a build with oversized tires?

Hi,

I am just beginning to build my first project truck, '62 C10 which I will be putting on a tahoe frame. I plan to have it on 35 inch tires, and possibly regeared. I haven't decided if I will be keeping the 5.3 in the tahoe or swapping for a 6.0, but my question is this: is there a cam anyone can recommend for a build with 35's? I want to have a nice choppy idle, but i realize going too big on a cam with large tires can hurt performance. Please bear with me, I'm new to all of this. Thanks in advance!

Absolutely regear

212/218 112LSA .600/.600 would be a good and proven cam if staying 5.3

What gearing would be recommended for something like this? 4.56 or 4.88? Would this same gearing apply to the 6.0 too?

That 212/218 would be nice in a 6.0 with big tires as well. 4.56 would be fine for either engine IMO, more important, is the 4l60 transmission that's not gonna be happy with a cammed engine and big tires. Could do a 4l80 swap but the first gear ratio kinda sucks and might make you prefer 4.88s over the 4.56s

Thanks for the quick replies guys! I plan to swap a 4l80e regardless of 5.3 or 6.0. Would there be any stage 3 cams that work with a setup like mine without going too crazy on the gearing? I do want to keep it driveable, but I also want to get the most power and chop out of whatever cam I go with

The gearing offsets the larger tire diameter and using a tire/gear calculator will answer the correct gearing size. You can't pick a camshaft profile before you choose CID.

Ok so based on the calculator I would need 4.10s for 35's on a tahoe frame. If going with a 6.0/4l80e, and a cam, would this 4.10 ratio still be true? It seems with the cam I would require lower gears.

I have 4.10s on 33s in a Tahoe with a 4L60 and I hate it. Needs more gear. With the steep 1st in a 4L80 I would be looking at 4.56 minimum or 4.88 ideally

In fact, I am still considering 4.88s with a 6L80 when I go with 35s on my truck. Gear is great, but I use my truck differently than most streeters

I run a Comp 222/224 @ 112 on 33s with a triple disc tow converter.

Plenty of chop and runs like a damn freight train if I push it.

Did you change the gearing or leave the stock 3.73s?
