Cam bearings q ?

Default Cam bearings q ?

to install new cam bearings on a 6.0L do you have to take out the crank and pistons?
it's a short block right now and befor I do the swap I wanna change them any help
would be sweet....

stripthe block down. I have done it both ways, but not worth risking metal shvings.

BTW, whats wrong with your cam bearings? I try to not change them unless they need too.

Rick what about if theres some small chips on some of the bearings? The first 2 are fine but last 3 have some chips. Sorry for jacking your thread just curious.

there showing a little were if you look at them you can see the brass or what ever it is made of starting to show were spots but there's no chips are anything like that
so do you think I sould chage them?

Have a machine shop do it! Not worth the risk.

I am going to take it to a machine shop I took it to one and he said that I have to bring him the bear block that I have to remove the pistons and crank but I don't think this guy knows to much about LS motors....

That sounds right that you need to tare it to bare block.

Brass is normal on these blocks because the brass is not from the cam wear. GM line hones the block with the bearings in them. So thats what you are seeing. Unless the bearings are messed up and not in normal condition, dont change them.

Hard to say. If the chips are not affecting the smoothness, or not hitting the cam journals, you may be ok. Cam bearings get hit with any cam install. Its just a matter of how bad.
