You should do the cam install yourself and spend the money on more parts. Cam swaps are easy on an LSX engine. So are the heads for that matter. The trucks are the easiest of all compared to the F bodies and vetts because there is so much room under the hood of a truck. Name another engine you can swap the cam on without pulling the intake or heads? The prices you're being quoted must be from someone that doesn't know an LSX engine and plans to spend time removing and reinstalling unnecessary parts because they don't know how easy it is to do a cam swap on an LSX. If you don't trust yourself to do the work get someone with LSX experience and I'm sure the price will come down as will the time to do the job. I wouldn't let those guys anywhere near either one of my LSXs. Now that I think about it I wouldn't let anybody near my motors since I turn all my own wrenches. That's an easy 600 to 800 for a half days work.

Can atest to that! It was done in my driveway (but wasn't my truck). Pull radiator, water pump & fan as one, timing cover, and cam sprocket. You're there... (of course, there's more to it, but that's the basics. read the posted link above)

just read the cam install guide and I will probably just pay for the install. Looks like to many things can go wrong.

i agree tarn, if trying to do it by yourself it all seems pretty intimidating but if someone is willing to help that know what they are doing then it coudl be a fun time plus you'd get to know your engine just a little better. it all depends on what type of quote you recieve

what springs do I need for the 224/224 568/568 114. Also if I am spending 800+ dollars in labor is there any other things needed or that could be easily upgraded during the cam install.

some comp 918's or manley springs, 7.40 chromoly push rods, if you have the extra 1300 bucks you could get a new set of cylinder heads, you could get a double roller timing chain too, or at least replace your single
