cam ???

If you have the means, go bigger. I ran my TR220 on the stock convertor and stock tune for a few months before I had my stall and tune done. The idle was a little choppy but for the most part ran fine. You'll need springs with the 220 and pushrods are highly recommended. It really started to run well after the convertor so plan on that in your future budget. Good luck!

But, if this cam will be the last cam you do and will never put a stall in your truck the 212/218 is a nice cam.

. It did loose some down low, so a bigger stall IS recommended. I put in a TT2600 because I have future plans for a S/C. A new tune is necessary...trust me.

went with the 212/218 on a 112, i think this will work well since a new stall isnt in the near future. anybody with advise on the do's n dont's of this install, all info welcome as this is the first one i will have done.

That is a good cam selection--low end power should be fine with a nice, meancing idle... There are a few don'ts, but if anything, there are more "make sure you do this." I could write a small novel about cam install procedures on a LS motor, but it would be better if you used the Search tool and see who has already written a cam install procedure for our trucks...

the truck is finished and i love it. very noticable difference, and the best thing is that i don't have the tune on it yet, so i can't wait till i give Mr. Wheatley a call. i'll post pics and video after the tune.

yes doing things yourself is the only way to go, it keeps more money in the wallet for future mods and it's very rewarding knowing you have done this yourself, plus only you are going to triple check everything to make sure it's right.
as far as lifters, i spun the cam until they popped into place then prayed to the lifter gods that they didn't fall
i did the same for the valves, i put the piston on TDC and removed the spring and preyed that they didn't fall.
i took about 2 days, because since i have a shop to run i would only touch the truck on my spare time in 10 to 20 minutes increments.
the only special tool you will need is the spring compressor and a torque wrench the rest is basic hand tools,
the only trouble area is the last spring on the passenger side head, because the engine and transmission dipstick are in the way, other than that you'll be fine
if your going to do this by yourself look up the proper way of holding the lifters and valves up because you might not get as lucky as i did then you'll be very angry when you have to pull the heads.

it's funny out of all the cam installs ive read up on 75% of them have done it that way without a problem and 100% of them advise against it, go figure!
i might just roll the dice myself.

well i got my cam, FINALLY!!! 3 weeks after i ordered it. at first i was excited when it showed up on my doorstep, that is untill i opened the box to discover they sent me the cam on a 115 lsa instead of a 112. now i am considering installing this one since it took so damn long to get it in the first place. is this wise or should i bite the bullet and send it back and play the waiting game some more? what differences will i see between the 115 and the 112???
