Why the stock tune? A tuned PCM is a lot easier swap than a cam..

Yes, but its already in the engine. LOL! You could get a small one but if youre gonna swap might as well get something that will make a noticeable difference. A mail order tune would work for a cam only truck. You can get that pretty cheap. Call Wait4Me, Jesse has the best price I've seen. Also try Nelson performance. Sponsor----->

i kinda have limited fundage and wanted to do something a little different than standard bolt ons. figured a cam would be a good choice. when you get a tuned PCM, do you just plug and play? also i read on this site, some people are doing a vette servo mod, what is that?

Yes, you unplug your PCM and plug in the new tuned one. Do this before cam.

A 'servo' goes into your trans and helps with shifting.

it would fit into your truck and would be a pretty good setup especially if you plan on going FI sometime in the future but there are plenty of other cams out there especially if you want to be a little different than the LS6 cam. search for 4.8 and cams etc and you'll find various set ups.

Pretty much any cam is gonna want to be tuned accordingly to get the full benefits of it. My cam is very mild by most guys standards, and the difference in power with and without a tune is unbelievable. Since you have an 02, you already have an advantage (my 99 actually ran like crap after my cam swap due to the false KR the PCM was picking up from the increased valvetrain harmonics...an 02 PCM cured that ) You could probably get away with a mild cam like mine and the factory tune, but it's really not worth it IMO. If you're looking for more power, I'd go for the custom tune first, you'll be happy you did. It's about the easiest mod with the most noticable results that you can do.
