Default blow by issues...

whats goin on everyone? got some bad news last night and figured id ask here to get a few other opinions.

last night i bought some new intake mani gaskets and as soon as my intake was off, i noticed almost all of the intake runners had a nice amount of oil in them as well as the gaskets, intake was soaked etc. being half asleep my dumbass didnt think anything of it. coming home last night a few runs in mexico were made with a gsr honda, my buddys were behind me during the runs and said under WOT i had a tiny puff of blue smoke when i nailed it so now im a little concerned.

the heads were off in november(truck popped a headgasket) and got a cam, bottom end looked great, no ridge on the top of the cylinder walls, could still see the hatch marks in the walls and the bottom end was impressivly clean. my engine block is an 03 so im starting to wonder if gm did some sort of warranty short block swap and threw my original heads back on? heads looked pretty warn, nice ridge in the valves and defnitley needed a cleanup but i couldnt afford it at the time. im thinking its most likely valve guides/seals but any other opinions would be greatley appreciated! im planning on running a leakdown test sometime this week when i have the time, but until then its gonna be driving me nuts lol

thanks for your time

tj

The intake full of oil is secondary to the pcv system and is usual.

think it may just need a catch can then? this was a pretty big amount. as for pcv i still have it routed just as it was stock, off the passanger side theres no more vaccum tube from the valve cover to the throttle body and theres now just a breather.

You can plumb an air compressor air/water separator inline with the pcv hose to catch some of the oil vapor.

yea thats normal. A catch can to catch the oil vapors and you will be good.
My tahoe has 240k miles on it and it was smoking pretty good when you get on the throttle good. I did a whole can of seafoam in the intake and now its smoke free.

Catch can would be the best bet.

justin thanks man, didnt even think about doing a catch can that way. ill probably go pick one up n run that until i can afford a legit catch can. and jonathan thats definitley good to hear your issue was fixed with the can. only reason i felt it was probably guides/seals is my heads look pretty warn. either way the other heads will probably be ordered this month so i guess well see if the catch can or heads fixes the problem. doesnt help i just got a longblock lq9 offered to me for 450 bucks though lol
