Yes.

On the cylinder walls: the idea is to use something light that will provide initial lubrication on startup once every starts getting lubricated by the pump. The assembly lubes are not recommended here because they can actually cause the cylinder walls to glaze and cause other issues like rings not seating.

BTW, are you planning on using break-in oil initially on the engine? I think you can get oil formulated for this specifically or add an additive. Or use SAE 30 non-detergent conventional oil like what they recommend for shop air compressors.

I have read it from both sides on break in oil type. The amount of money put into this I would like to do it the right way for sure

I use cheap 15w40 diesel oil for engine inital start and breakin. Then change it and run a quality 5w30 oil for a daily or a 5w40 for a daily turbo truck.

I just run the cheapest oil for start up. What ever weight the engine will use. Usually Walmart's house brand oil. (Private label by Valvoline for Walmart)
I try to bring it up to temp if possible on a first start up. Once I know it's up to temp and there are no leaks or cooling issues, I drain it and change the oil and filter.

I do not skimp on Oil Filters ever including first Start up.
I also prime my engines with a pressurized set up prior to start up when possible.

Oil has to meet a certain standard regardless!!! While the additive packages may be different between the brands in regards to the detergent, anti foaming, and so on...It still has to lubricate and meet certain requirements in order to get it's rating and maintain it.
Oil filters... That's a whole other topic and not really regulated like oil standards are.
