arp head stud install

Default arp head stud install

i didn't know that the head bolts on gen III engines were TTY until now, gonna get some studs since i will be boosting anyways. i had to replace one head on the 6.0 i picked up but the other side is fine, when i put the studs in can i replace the good side one at a time or do i have to take that head off and put a new gasket on there also? just seeing if i can save some time/money. the engine only has 20k miles..

Not a good idea to reuse head gaskets....but people have done it. You can do one side at a time, but may as well do both at once

i would change the bolts one at a time on the side thats not messed up. its not the correct way but if it you could always do it by itself later.

If the head is never pried up it might work. But get ready to swap it when it doesn't work.

i guess il do both sides, just a head gasket il have to replace.

I think that you'll be better off that way, plus, you can torque them sequentially properly, instead of one at a time, while the originals are still TTY'd in the block...

After thinking about it. I think you have to install the back most stud when you install the head. Put it in the hole then slide the head on.

Yes, there are a few studs in the rear that you have to do after the head is on, or the head won't slide on since the firewall is in the way...at least one that I'm aware of. Put all of the other studs in, slide the heads on, then screw in the remaining stud or two that creates clearance issues.
