Default Another Cam Q

Alright, well started making a list the other day for a cam swap. How about some help choosing or directing me.

Here is a little what the truck gets used for: Daily Drive, We have two boats, 18' lund alaskan and a 24' larson international, Something where i don't loose low end, or even gain a little low end. Strong Mid range for highway driving. But i still want a fun cam. And will still yield decent mileage. I don't want to run a converter. I do currently have a 2000 stall in, but if the trans goes, i will be going back to a stock stall. I had a 2400 in the past and wasn't the most comfortable to tow with.

A few cams i have been looking at:

Comp 206/212 .513/.52 115
Comp 206/212 .515/.522 112
Vinci 080 210/218 .551/.551 116
Comp 212/216 .52/.524 115(says a 6.0l cam, but don't see why it won't work in a 5.3?)
Comp 212/218 .522/.529 114
VooDoo 212/218 .471/.507 116
Thunder Racing 214/220 .600/.523 115 LSA

Thats what i was thinking, and the one i like the most. Didn't know if the high lift would be a killer on the low end though.

Where you at in the motor city? I'm in Taylor.

Higher LSA and non radical duration will keep your low end. I had to do go with a less radical cam for towing purposes myself. I'm in Roseville. Work in Farmington Hills.

The job situation here is an absolute joke. I work at a GM dealer and never imagined it would get this bad. Nobody spending money + 100% commission paycheck =

I'd bet you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between any of them. The 112 LSA cam might idle a little rougher and make a little more midrange tq. It would peak lower and fall off quicker. You could probably put the others in a bag, shake them up, pick one, and be OK. The problem you're going to come up against is that you might find someone who's had one of these cams, but you probably won't find anyone that's had more than one in the same setup. No real objective comparison.

For your needs I like the specs of the Vinci cam, although I can tell you from experience, the Comp 206/212 is a great daily driver, that's the cam I have on a 114. No higher stall verter needed, although it wouldn't hurt
