Default Advise please 2008 5.3 LY5 upgrades

I am about to upgrade cam and lifters and mill the heads on my truck. I work at a GM dealer and I am going to use GM parts. I am looking for a cam that will work good in my truck (L99,LS9 or whatever)???. I am planning on milling the heads .030 while they are off. I need to know if my pushrods will need to be changed and what springs I need for the camshaft that you would recommend. When I mill the heads .030 is there any other problem that may arise. My truck has AFM on it and I would like to keep it. With the 3:73 gears if I drive my truck like I'm driving Mrs Daisy it will stay in AFM mode at highways speed and I have seen over 24 MPG average on trips. My last truck with 3:42 would not do that so with the 3:73 and AFM works good for me.

If you want to keep your AFM you will have to choose a AFM cam. L99 is probably as big as they come from the General but wouldn't be worth the time or trouble. IIRC Scoggin or TSP have some AFM cams. They should be able to recomend a spring for the cam you choose and you'll need to measure for your new pushrod length.

Just FYI, AFM hates high lift, aggressive ramp rates and high rpms.

I decided on the 02-up ls6 cam with a DOD delete. I have a valley cover from a non AFM 6.2 from a 2007 Denali truck without the PCV port. A cam gear with 3 bolt from the camaro, a set of valve springs called for by GMPP for the LS6 cam and the lifter guides. I am going to mill the heads .030 so this should put me close to where I need to be using the smaller base circle camshaft and still use my stock pushrods. I have the bolts and gaskets. I already have my truck tuned to diable the DOD and have the plug unplugged at the back of the motor already and no engine light. Is there anything else I should be concerned about or may come across. Everything I can tell PTV should be good with the ls6 cam and factory pistons.
