Advice on heads for a 5.3
#1
Hey guys F.N.G. here asking whats probably been asked a couple dozen other times but could to turn up anything in the search.
I have a 2004 Silverado with a 5.3 < I'm at a point to where I can start playing with the motor some and was planning to get a set of heads and have them reworked and ready for when I do a cam swap , the truch has a set of long tube headers running into a 3.5" highflow cat then through a Gibson stainless swept side exhaust , I'm in Louisiana so I may elininate the cats later.
So what are some decioent factroy heads to look for and have reworked and what exactly would you have done to them?
the truck is mostly my daily driver but does get a 4 wheeler loaded i the back now and then , very little towing mostly just wanting to haul *** a little better.
I appreciate all advice , JJ

I'd look for 243 heads, have them milled .020, cnc ported, add bigger valves..should flow well over 300 cfm at .600.
Some good info here: https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...ghlight=%23853
You should have the 706/862 heads, and you could have them reworked too to save some $. Lots of options out there.

Best bang for your buck IMHO would be either the PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads or the 1.0 243 heads milled as mentioned above....I would personally stick with 5.3 heads...300+ cfm
and zero ptv/quench issues....

Thanks for the replys fellas .
man I just reread my post and relized how crappy my spelling is , i guess I got some realy fat fingers early in the AM
I have a person that has some heads from a few Camaro's , he did a valve job on them and replaced the springs with LS6 springs and claims their good for .580" lift , I'm not gonna be using a cam that big but the springs sound good.
the casting numbers he provided were 241 and 853 , from what i can find the 241's came of a 2000 SS Camaro and the 853's are off of a 2000 Camaro NON SS verson.
would these be a worthy investment for a truck build with say a xr275hr cam and 2600-2800 stall?

yea ,I saw that the combustion shamber on the 241's was 66.67cc and the combustion chamber on the heads I have now (706's) is 61.15cc
could they be shaved to trim some chamber ?
would I be better off just having my current heads reworked and maybe trimmed some?
I guess just keep an eye out for some 243's

I'd talk to Richard at WCCH and see what they have to offer...tdrumm put a set of their StageI 5.3 heads on his truck and had great results...can't remember the numbers but he had a good gain

Ya, whata bout these Edelbrocks down near bottom. They fit 5.3.

Thought I'd throw that up, but may be a tad outta your budget, but IDK.
