The ports on the 317 heads are basicly the same as LS6 heads but the chambers are larger 72cc vs 66cc on the LS1 heads,so you would need to mill the 317 heads about .030" to maintain your stock compression.LS6 heads have 64cc chambers.

Besides the reduced compression the 6.0l heads will give, the chambers will over hang the cylinder bores and that can cause issues with intake flow and to a lesser degree combustion. If you need to reduce compression to compensate for a FI application it's often acceptable to swap out the 6.0l heads. Another possiblity is to have your LS1 chambers (67-68cc) machined opened to increase the volume to the 6.0l head size (71-72cc), but retain the stock dia. LS1 bore size.
