Default 6.0 Rebuild

If I were to pick up an 04-06 LQ4 with about 100k miles on it, what should I have done to it before installing it, if anything, assuming it works? I would be using it in my truck, so all the accesories and blower should swap over. I will also reuse my cam (LP GT2-3) and comp pushrods.

-I have LS6 valve springs, should I go for something better or are these fine? Max lift on the cam is right around .580

-Timing chain replaced?

-ARP head bolts, rod bolts, header studs?

-Head port and polish?

Basically what should I do to it while its not installed in terms of making sure its tough. Max boost would be around 12psi. With 100k miles on it should I be looking to have it bored out by a machine shop or would the above mods be enough?

Forged slugs, rods, upgraded fasteners should top the list. From there, it depends on budget and mileage on the mill.

Im doing the same thing kinda right now.

Started off with a the 5.3 that came in my truck with 180,000 on her.

put a cam/ springs/push rods, LS6 oil pump and LS2 chain. Then the lifters took a ****.

So i bought an 03' LQ4 with 45,000 on it.

I put all the goodies and new oil pump/ Timing chain in because its easy while its out.

I reccomend to you a new set of lifters and why not do a oil pump and Timing chain while your in there in addition to your other mods . . Easy to do it now when its not in the truck.

i would pull the pan and check a few bearings 1s off. if they look good and the cylinder still had crosshairs, than the short block should be fine. replace the pistons with forged pieces and have the cylinder walls honed

replace the oil pump, timing chain, lifters, have the heads reworked and polished if wanted, upgrade the valve springs, etc. look for a low mile short block to save some $$$.

I would run it bone stock. Chances are you'll end up doing more harm than good.

So im thinking find a decent condition 6.0, have the 317 heads ported and polished, get forged pistons and nice rods, have a custom blower cam spec'd out (something bigger than the gt2-3), and aim for around 11:1 compression.

Sounds like a good plan, better pick up an extra set of tires too.
