Default 6.0 or 5.3 build??

I've got a 2000 silverado shortbed single cab that has a 5.3 in it. It started makeing a rattling noise here for the past year & I don't know what it is. Buddy of mine has a 6.0 laying around he would let me have. Just wondering will it work as far as computer & all? Your thoughts?

any iron block 6.0 with aluminum heads up to and maybe further 2007 will bolt right in accessories and all, the computer will work just fine, you could get away without tuning it, but it would be recommended to get the tune swapped out accordingly... go ahead and throw a cam in there while you're at it

What kind of rattling noise? I'd run it till it popped and then do the 6L swap. Why not? Good excuse to beat the living crap out of it!

I'd do a 6.0 anyway (that's my plan ), but the rattling noise may not be the engine. The cats are known to break apart and cause a rattle, and they may not trip a check engine light...

Not sure of the year. I'm sure I'll have to go through it anyway so I plan on putting a cam in there & a few others. As far as the rattling goes not sure either. It only does it in the morning or when you first crank it up for about 1-2 mins. then its fine. Just really starting to get on my nerves now so good excuse to swap

Sounds like piston slap IMO.........once the pistons expand in the bores the noise goes away.

Yea, if it only does it on start up it's probably piston slap, you can let it ride and probably won't have any problems. GM claims that it's "characteristic" of GENIII motors.

My old forged 383 I had in my Vette did it real bad on cold start up. Those forged aluminum pistons made worse noise than the original stock cast pistons!
