Hey guys, I tried to find the answer by searching, but had no real luck. I am going to build a 5.3 for my 93 Mustang, I am curious what kind of horsepower can the stock engine can handle? I read an article from Car Craft magazine they took a 5.3 ran a carb and changed cams and it made 433 hp at the crank. Lets not worry about tune, but staying injected, what could this little engine do? (staying n/a)

You should be able to hit 375+ rwhp with a good set of heads, cam and bolt ons with a 5.3..

 

There have ben a few that have hit +/-400rwhp but thats hard to do.

 

In excess of 800hp, at least a few times. ok so you said NA later in your post....see above responses.

 

 

Yep, TJ at bakerengineering tuned one that is 681 RWHP stock internals on 35'' tires! Yes it is turboed. These motors are awesome!

 

I just put a 5.3 in a 67 camaro tube chassis carb'd on methanol n/a it is making around 540 fhp totally stock except cam & valve springs, pushrods

 

thats pretty awsome right there if you stop and think about it compared to yr's ago..

no thread, i just got it in last week. we wanted to see what we could get out of a 5.3, it ran 6.62 at 102 in 1/8, and it still has 1/4 mile gears in the car

 

and it has hand controls for the driver who is paralyzed from waist down.
