5.3 Cam question??
#21
We ordered two custom cams from Comp cams. These two cam's power band's as Comp says are from 1600-6500 RPM it actually cost us alot..but if what Comp Cams said about this camshaft is true then its worth it i guess.

Let's take a second look at those specs..... 215/231 .630/.644 118...is this correct? Seems like this cam is extremely exhaust biased, any reason? A 16* split is quite a bit. The intake duration seems about right for your application, but that's about all I'd keep from those specs IMO. Why such a wide LSA also? Seems like this cam was spec'd for a super-blower lol. I dunno, seems like there are much better choices available off the shelf, let alone custom grinds...

Where i live when we race we dont want our opponent to know whats on our engine. Thats why i chose a high lift so it can have a Smooth idle..well thanks for all your help guys ill let you know the results.

It is more the lobe angle seperation that gives you a quiet idle more so than the lift. A 118 will deffinately be a quiet idle but you can get close to stock with a 114.
That said, are you sure that is a Comp camshaft grind?? I thought those specs looked familiar when I was lookin on Lingenfelter's website the other day and hot dog what do ya know....Those are the specs of the GT11 camshaft. Oh and by the way, the intended application is for 350-427 cubic inch engines. Notice that the 5.3 (325 cubic inches) does not fall into that range meaning your power band will be even higher than 1600-6500. This means this cam is going to do nothing to help get that big avalanche moving off the line. Sure it will eventually pick up but by that time chances are you are behind by car lengths to a lighter vehicle and it wont matter. Just my 2 cents.
