Post 5.3 cam Choice

Hello, Im in the middle of a 5.3 swap in my '88 blazer. I have changed the stock truck intake over to the LS1 intake. I have headers, and will be doing a custom tune for the engine.

I have been wanting to cam this engine, and was wanting you guys suggestion.

The truck is manly a hot rod, hopefully street strip.

I lost with this matter. Like to have a good choppy idle. I think this cam will do this without any problem!

I found this cam from Lunati.
Part no. 55004LUN
Grind no. RRS1-221-221

221-221 adv.dura. 283 in -283 ex .558 lift and 114* lobe sep.

Would this work. I have no other things besides rear gear 3.70. No converter. I have a fresh TH-350 with all the good stuff. I plan on finding a 4L60E in a later date.

Any Suggestions would be great!

Thank you for your time.

Justin

Stock with Shortie headers and LS1 intake. Modified truck acces. And thats about it.
I know valve springs will need to be upgraded. Will this work with the stock lifters?

Thanks
Justin

Don't know of too many people running Lunati cams, but I like those specs, it would work well with a 3k converter. I'd ditch the LS1 intake and put the truck intake back on, it's been proven to have better numbers than the LS1 intake. The LS6 intake would be a very slight improvement over the truck intake, if your accessories are already set up for a LS1-6 style intake.

Thanks! I still have the intake. I bought it so a wouldn't have to buy a cowl hood. It's a bit too tall with stock hood.

How much will the LS1 intake hurt me?

Thanks Billy

no lifters will be fine but you will need pushrods also.... LS1 intake will cost some low end torque but shouldn't hurt bad..... You won't notice cause you never ran it with the truck intake!

Yea, I doubt that the intake will hurt enough to even notice.

I ran that cam in my truck for awhile and in my bag truck a 3200 stall was not enough I needed more like a 3600 to get it off the line but pulled good. think it was shifting around 65-6800 in a 5.3L go ahead and get dual springs the first go around tho, I broke a single but have had no problems with my patriots.

Agreed on getting a Converter. MY cam isn't as big and I need to bump up to at least a 3400 to suit it properly.
