408 build, L92's vs. 317's on stock converter
#11
Sounds like if I want to meet my goal I'm gonna have to just pony up for the L92's. If I go this route I just have a few questions about making it all work on a 99. The fuel rails are different and the truck has a cable going to the throttle body so I will need a new TB and way to make the fuel system work. What do the stock injectors on an L92 truck intake flow? The guy at TSP told me I would probably need at least 36# injectors. If they wont work then I was thinking about picking up some 8.1 marine injectors but I dont know how those would fit on the GEN IV intake manifold.

this is true but in my unexpert opinion a 212/218 cam also leaves a whole bunch in the table in such bid displacement motor ..
in a diffrent note my cousin has a 414stroker with afr's and only did 403 rwhp ... his cam is a 227/233 which we have come to learn that it leaves a whole lot of power in the table

Just depends how streetable you want it to be. This engine's in my daily driver and the cam's at my limit of tolerance for dealing with 30 stoplights between here and work. We've spent probably 30 hours tuning on-and-off the dyno and I've still got cam-surge-from-he!! .

No, two "half-days" on the dyno and the rest on the street with his laptop on the seat. Too darn much time! Although it pulls to 7000 RPM like a banshee. If it would just idle...
Time to fire my "tuner" though. He knew it was a daily driver and his work on the IAC alone constitutes malpractice.

I have been having second thoughts about the TSP 224 cam so I called up Comp and had them give me a recommendation based on my setup. They suggested a cam from their new LSR series designed for the rectangular port design of the L92 heads. Specs are 219/235 113LSA .607/.621. Powerband is 1500-6700RPM. I have read good things about this LSR cam but most of the ones I have seen tested are larger than this. I felt like I went too conservative on my last cam and I don't want to make the same mistake with a 408 but I also cannot have a ridiculous lope at idle or any drivability issues. I am really leaning towards this cam do you think its a good choice?
