Default 4.8 using forged 305 pistons??????????

So my friend and I have been discussing a budget 5.3 build.

Would 30 over 305 sbc pistons work in a 4.8 third gen with 6" rods?

pistons and rods are way cheaper this way.......

Get the block bored to 99mm (stock LS1 bore) and use stock LS1 pistons. If you're on a REALLY tight budget, used LS1 pistons pop up on EBay from time to time from people going to a stroker crank and pistons. Use the stock 5.3 rods or use the LS1 rods and poof, budget 5.7L build.

I should have made it more clear, sorry, I'm boosting this motor so thats why I need forged internals.

I'm familiar with the 5.7 pistons and stuff but I'm wanting a high hp budget build.

If someone will help put some brain power to this it may turn out to be a budget way to go forged....

Whats the compression height on the forged .030" over 305 pistons?

With a 6" rod and the 4.8L's 3.268" crank, you would need a compression height of: 1.606" to end up at the 9.24" LSx deck height.

Thats what I'm talkin about!

This is what i found:

Compression Distance (in): 1.560 in.

Is that possible to work with? and I thought lsx pistons came up beyond the deck?

MOst LSx pistons are .008 out of the hole. You are sitll going to be way in the hole, if you do use those then you are going to a really shitty combustion chamber. Wait and save some money and build it right.

I think SDPC has some budget forged flat top LS1 pistons. You could use those with 72cc 317 heads and the thickest head gaskets you can get. Would probably give ya a decent budget forged FI motor.

good idea but it's still $500 bones, I can do forged rods and pistons for that if this will work.

can I take .04 off the block?
