383 build
#1
I have a 5.3 from intake to oil pan I picked up for $150 that I have already torn down and inspected. I'm wanting to build a 383 out of it and i already have some brand new diamond dished forged pistons for the 3.905 bore laying here waiting to be used along with a single Manley 6.125 H beam rod. I'm curious if anyone has any experience with the lunati 4.000 crankshaft or H beams in 6.125 instead of buying 7 more Manleys and I was also curious about what all machine work I need to get done on this block other than the bore/hone with deck plates for the larger piston and the line hone for the main studs or if I would be good with just that. I'm not a millionaire wanting to pour ever last dime into this but I'd like to have a nice engine for my next project so that I can have some fun on the street or at the track on the weekends.

I am wanting to know some of the same info as you. Do you plan to keep the stock stroke for the crankshaft? I would think that MAYBE by going to an H-beam you would need to clearance, but about the only way to tell for certain would be to assemble it and measure it out. I watched a video a few years back where a guy said that when you clearance one it has to be a minimum of .100 clearance to allow for heat expansion.
I don't know for certain and, like I mentioned, I am wanting to pursue the same size of a build.
You are running an iron block right?
If you have them, can you share some part numbers?
