Default 353049 Heads VS Vortec Heads

I have A 1973 454 with 353049 Heads, Wondering If I should go Vortec Instead of keeping it old school. Because I can always bring it In and get A 3 Angle valve job on the old heads, and also would like your thoughts about 5 Angle Iv noticed some guys doing that now. I'm trying to figure out if I'll get more horsepower out of the 353049 Heads or the Vortec because Iv heard the Vortec does flow better. Comments would be very helpful just bought this motor and building. I'm an Amateur obviously and would like the help thanks!

Thumbs up 049 heads

049 are the best FACTORY oval port heads you can get .you better keep them .i have seen those heads on a 10.1cr 454 with comp cam 294 solid lift make 600 to FLY WHEEL .

definitely run the 049's they are a much better head than the vortecs, the only advantage the vortecs have are a 100cc chamber for a nice bump in compression.

ive ran low compression 454s before and headers and a crane 2782nc camshaft really wakes them up with good driveability. even with qjet intake and carb.
